Twisters notch third win of the season

BATESVILLE — The Oldenburg Academy varsity boys basketball team picked up its third win of the season by beating the winless Indianapolis International Gryphons on Monday night.

The Twisters, who defeated the Gryphons earlier in the season, posted a 47-33 victory.

It was not easy in the early stages, but coach Gary Moorman’s crew settled in and put distance between themselves and their opponents as the game progressed.

A three point lead at the end of the first quarter grew to 26-12 by halftime. The third quarter was played a little tighter with OA bumping the margin to 41-26.

Gurad Matt Hurm turned in a solid effort for the Twisters. He tallied 14 points, three steals, three assists and four rebounds. Peter Lamping tied for the team high with 14 points and grabbed six rebounds.

A few days earlier, the Twisters hosted Morristown. The Yellow Jackets prevailed by a score of 59-44.

Oldenburg kept the game close and trailed by a slim 13-11 margin at the first stop. Morristown followed up with a 17-6 advantage in the second quarter as the margin grew to 13 points.

The second half was much better for the Twisters, but they could not make up any ground. Morritown outscored OA by two points over the finals 16 minutes.

Ted Geis finished with a team-high 16 points for Oldenburg. Cory Schuman, Hurm and Lamping each chipped in seven.
