Bulldogs leave North Decatur with pair of victories

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Bulldogs improved to 12-1 on the basketball season with a 66-55 victory at North Decatur Friday night.

The Bulldogs led most of the game with the advantage reaching as many as 17 points in the third quarter.

The Chargers made a run in the fourth behind the efforts of John Hammersmith. Hammersmith scored the team’s final eight points to help close the gap to 11 points.

Batesville sophomore Bryan Hoeing countered with the final four points of the game to preserve the victory.

Hoeing finished the game with 21 points followed by 11 from Mike Hoeing and eight by Matt Dennis.

Hammersmith led all scorers with 23 points.

The Batesville junior varsity handled North with relative ease in the first game.

The Bulldogs trailed at the end of the first quarter, but bounced back to take a 14-11 lead at halftime. The lead then grew to 25-16 before settling at 38-22 when the final horn sounded.

Cody Reer scored a team-high 13 points followed by Jacob Vogelsang with nine. Matt Moorman added seven points.
