Batesville track and field teams win at home

BATESVILLE — The Batesville High School track and field teams put together another successful evening as they claimed victory in the 4-way meet against Jac-Cen-Del, North Decatur and Hauser.

The Lady Bulldogs racked up 128 points to distance themselves from second place North Decatur with 54. Jac-Cen-Del placed third with 32 points followed by Hauser with 26.

The boys team also scored over a hundred with 106 points. Hauser was second with 46, while JCD (41) and North Decatur (40) rounded out the field.

Andy Nolan, Ginny Westerfeld and Kim Tidman were double winners for Batesville. Both teams also crossed the finish line first in all three relays.

Westerfeld won the 100-meter dash (13.18) and 200-meter dash (27.41), while Tidman placed first in the high jump (5-03) and long jump (14-10). Like Westerfeld, Nolan was a winner in the 100- and 200-meter dash.

In addition to the top three for BHS, many different first place finishers emerged.

First place honors went to Dani Strobel (Pole Vault - 8’), Kelsey Gausman (1600m run-5:34.43), Rylee Goldsmith (400m dash-1:02), Emily Meer (300m hurdles-50.07), Nathan Longstreth (High Jump-5’10”), Gunter Jones (110m hurdles-17.64), Diego Osante (Pole Vault-8’6”), John Moody (400m dash-54.32), Peter Heil (300m hurdles-42.92) and Trent Barnett (3200m run-11:52.6).

Winning relay teams were  4 x 100 girls (Beth Werner, Tidman, Paige Current, Ginny Westerfeld and Ben Westerfeld, Clayton McKinley, Jones and Nolan), 4 x 800 (Abbie Krieg, Andrea Nobbe, Lauren Eckstein, Gausman and Heil, Cole Nuhring, Calvin Lehman and Michele’ Genoni), 4 x 400: (Tidman, Meer, Audrey Hall, Goldsmith and Heil, Nuhring, Genoni and Moody).

Second place finishers for Batesville included Cassie Reverman (shot put), Meer (100m hurdles), Alex Wirth (pole vault), Hall(400m dash), Goldsmith (high jump and 200m dash), Eckstein (800m run), Gausman (3200m run),Tom Chaffee (high jump), Nolan (long jump), Graham Hunter-(shot put) and Genoni(400m dash).

Third place honors went to Samantha Heidlage (shot put), Whitney McCray (100m dash), Lexi Hatcher (pole vault), Reverman (discus), Nobbe (300m hurdles), Holly Keck (800 run), Jacob Koehne (100m dash), McKinley (long jump), Nuhring (400m dash) and  Lehman (800m run).
