Lady Bulldogs fall to Seymour

The Batesville Lady Bulldogs went on the road for their second basketball game of the season.

The result was not the same as the season opening win against North Decatur.

Turnovers and a rough night shooting kept coach Darrick Cox’s crew from keeping pace with the Seymour Lady Owls. Seymour outscored the Lady Bulldogs in three of the four quarters and went on to post a 67-41 victory.

Batesville turned the ball over a total of 20 times and were just 14-of-57 shooting from the field.

After battling back from an eight point first quarter deficit, the Lady Bulldogs entered halftime trailing 24-21.

The big setback came in the third quarter. The Lady Owls outscored Batesville 25-6 and stretched their lead to 22 points.

The Lady Bulldogs gave up 18 more points in the fourth quarter and could not make up any ground.

Brooke Bradford and Jessica Wagers set the pace offensively. Bradford finished with 11 points and five assists, while Wagers scored 11. Wagers was 5-of-10 shooting from the field, including a 3-pointer.

The Batesville junior varsity suffered a loss as well. Seymour capitalized on a big second quarter and went on to post a 38-26 victory.

The Lady Owls outscored Batesville 18-5 in the second quarter to take a 26-16 lead into halftime.

Guard Tara Prickel led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with six points followed by Samantha Heidlage and Mary Catherine Barnett with five apiece. Shelby Rupp led the team in rebounding with four boards.

Prickel, Hannah Wintz and Mary Poltrack each had two steals on the defensive end.
