Oldenburg Academy boys get past Hauser

The Oldenburg Academy boys varsity basketball team took the first step to competing for the Class A, Sectional No. 60 title at South Decatur.

The Twisters were 78-62 winners over the Hauser Jets on Tuesday evening.

Coach Bob Nobbe's Jets got out to a quick start and led 5-0 on field goals by Rory Thayer and Trey Shipley.

The Twisters countered with the game's next seven points. Back-to-back field goals by Matt Moorman was followed by a 3-pointer by Kurt Sarringhaus.

Next it was Hauser's turn. They put together a 7-0 run to regain the lead.

Holding to form, the Twisters bounced back for the final nine points to take a 16-12 lead at the quarter break. Moorman and Sarringhaus did the damage. Sarringhaus hit a pair of 3-pointers, while Moorman added a field goal and one free throw.

The second quarter was not near the roller coaster as the first.

Oldenburg did get the lead to 27-17 before Hauser's Dalton McKinney got it back to eight points.

The first half ended with the Twisters holding on to a 35-30 advantage.

The Jets outscored the Twisters 12-11 to cut the deficit to four points by the end of the third quarter.

The game was tied at 48-48 when Moorman scored to give OA the edge. From that point, the Twisters outscored Hauser 28-14 to pull away for the victory.

Moorman finished with a game-high 26 points, including 12 points over the final eight minutes. He was also 10-of-13 from the free throw line for the game.

Sarringhaus hit four 3-pointers and finished second on the team in scoring with 14 points, while Matty Hurm added 13. Hurm was 10-of-12 from the charity stripe.

Trey Shipley led the Jets with 14 points followed by McKinney with 10.

Next up for OA will be the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles on Friday.
