The Oldenburg Academy boys varsity basketball team took the first step to competing for the Class A, Sectional No. 60 title at South Decatur.
The Twisters were 78-62 winners over the Hauser Jets on Tuesday evening.
Coach Bob Nobbe's Jets got out to a quick start and led 5-0 on field goals by Rory Thayer and Trey Shipley.
The Twisters countered with the game's next seven points. Back-to-back field goals by Matt Moorman was followed by a 3-pointer by Kurt Sarringhaus.
Next it was Hauser's turn. They put together a 7-0 run to regain the lead.
Holding to form, the Twisters bounced back for the final nine points to take a 16-12 lead at the quarter break. Moorman and Sarringhaus did the damage. Sarringhaus hit a pair of 3-pointers, while Moorman added a field goal and one free throw.
The second quarter was not near the roller coaster as the first.
Oldenburg did get the lead to 27-17 before Hauser's Dalton McKinney got it back to eight points.
The first half ended with the Twisters holding on to a 35-30 advantage.
The Jets outscored the Twisters 12-11 to cut the deficit to four points by the end of the third quarter.
The game was tied at 48-48 when Moorman scored to give OA the edge. From that point, the Twisters outscored Hauser 28-14 to pull away for the victory.
Moorman finished with a game-high 26 points, including 12 points over the final eight minutes. He was also 10-of-13 from the free throw line for the game.
Sarringhaus hit four 3-pointers and finished second on the team in scoring with 14 points, while Matty Hurm added 13. Hurm was 10-of-12 from the charity stripe.
Trey Shipley led the Jets with 14 points followed by McKinney with 10.
Next up for OA will be the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles on Friday.
