Lumbermen hand Norwood first loss

The Herald-Tribune

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Lumbermen vintage baseball team traveled to Norwood on June 9 to battle the undefeated Highlanders.

The two teams traditionally have close matches and this was not different.

The Highlanders jumped out to an early 5-2 lead only to see the Lumbermen tally seven aces in the third inning to take their first lead at 9-5.  The Highlanders went on to lead 14-13 through seven and one-half innings.

The Lumbermen struck the ball well in the bottom of the eighth and regained a 17-14 advantage

The Highlanders went down in routine fashion as the Lumbermen secured the victory.

Offensive totals for the Lumbermen were:

Anthony “Big City” Casablanca led the team offensively with five hits and four aces.

Mark “Spider” Stenger, Dan “Wheels” Schuman and Tim “Sparky” Fullenkamp led the team added four hits apiece, while Chris “Steamboat” Casablanca, Jeff “Blue” Bolchalk, Eric “Rocky Top” Kuntz, Glenn “Red” Saler, Scott “Shag” Weberding, and Scott “Cowboy” Dwenger each had three.

The Lumbermen will next play in Huntingburg on June 15.
