Lady Bulldogs top No. 2 Rising Sun

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Lady Bulldogs and Rising Sun Lady Shiners had seven lead changes before the outcome was settled on the softball diamond.

The Lady Bulldogs picked up the victory over Class A, No. 2 ranked team by a score of 8-6.

Batesville managed to grab the lead after a five-run sixth inning. A groundout by Katie Thomas scored Alyssa Dudley to give the Lady Bulldogs the lead for good. Additional runs came from a groundout by Meg Liter, a two-run single by Morgan Kain, and a walk by Dudley.

Rising Sun scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Batesville answered with three runs in the fourth only to have the Lady Shiners counter with two in the bottom half.

Rising Sun added to the 4-3 lead with two more runs in the fifth.

Hannah Putnam was solid at the plate for Batesville. She was 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Putnam singled in the second, fourth, and sixth innings. Cassidy Werner added to the offensive punch with three hits and one run for the Lady Bulldogs.

Liter allowed six runs over seven innings for the pitching victory. She struck out six, walked four and gave up seven hits.
