Bulldogs cruise 52-7

It was not expected to be a huge hurdle for the Bulldogs to clear, but still they had to come out and play well.

The Bulldogs got off to a good start and set the tone early Friday night against the South Dearborn Knights. Batesville jumped out to a 31-0 halftime lead and went on to beat the Knights 52-7 in varsity football action.

Coach Eric Heppner’s crew capitalized on a Bo Gowan kickoff return to the 40 yard line to open the game. Five plays later, they were in the end zone.

Quarterback Connor Schuck connected with Ben Wilson for a 19 yard touchdown pass. Peter Heil added the extra point to make it 7-0.

Defensively, the Bulldogs continue to impress.

The Knights struggled on their first possession. Two short carries and pass knocked down by Batesville’s Cody Reer resulted in a punt.

This time it took six plays to score. A nice catch and run by Clayton McKinley and run by Gowan got the Bulldogs deep into Knight territory. Schuck then found wide receiver Connor Dickey open along the back of the end zone. Dickey made a nice catch near the corner for the touchdown. Heil’s second extra point made it 14-0.

The recipe for success continued. The defense held their ground and got the ball back for the offense by forcing a couple more punts. The second one led to another Bulldog score.

A 59 yard pass play from Schuck to Ryan Wilson highlighted the next scoring drive. Gowan capped a six play series with a seven yard touchdown run at the 9:22 mark.

Seth Williamson came up with a South Dearborn fumble to set up yet another Batesville score.

The Bulldogs went back to the air for their second touchdown of the second quarter. Schuck and Ben Wilson connected for 54 yards about three minutes later.
