Lady Bulldogs lose for first time

It was a tough night on the road for the Batesville High School volleyball team.

The Lady Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season to the Lawrenceburg Lady Tigers.

After losing the first two sets 25-17 and 25-23, the Lady Bulldogs rebounded with an easy 25-15 win the fourth. Unfortunately, the LadyTigers answered with a 25-20 victory in the fourth.

As standout hitter Bailey Baumer’s playing time was cut short, the Lady Bulldogs were limited somewhat. Rylee Goldsmith continued her stellar work around the net with a total of 18 kills. Kim Tidman was next highest with five kills.

The Lady Bulldogs are now 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference.

The Batesville junior varsity was also defeated by the host Lady Tigers.

Lawrenceburg won in two sets 25-19 and 25-19.

Lexi Hatcher led the Lady Bulldogs in serving with nine points, while Tidman and Rachel Gerstbauer were the top hitters with three kills apiece. Hatcher also recorded a team-high 23 digs.

Lady Bulldogs triumph in four

It may not have been their prettiest win of the season, but it was a win.

The Lady Bulldogs needed four sets to knock off the Connersville Lady Spartans on Saturday.

Batesville won the first two sets 25-15 and 25-16 before losing the third 25-20. They bounced back to take the fourth by a convincing score of 25-12.

Baumer and Goldsmith continue to rack up big numbers. Each player finished with 15 kills. Madi Oesterling had a big day serving with 21 service points in 29 attempts.

Defensively, Chelsey Paul led the team in serve receive and was second on the team in digs. Goldsmith was second in service receive and first in digs. Anna Meyer finished with a team-high five blocks.

The Batesville junior varsity suffered a loss in three sets 24-25, 25-19 and 9-15.

The Lady Bulldogs had a balanced attack at the net. Four different players had at least five kills and other finished with four. Avni Patel recorded a team-high six.

Sophia Fledderman and Kylie Paul handled most of the setter duties and combined for 22 assists. Fledderman led with 13. Hatcher anchored the defensive effort with 20 digs.
