The Batesville High School boys varsity soccer team remained unbeaten on the season with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Lawrenceburg Tigers.
“We were very pleased with our effort and possession of the ball,” BHS coach Chris Fox commented. “The Tigers’ defense was difficult to break down, but we did a good job of being patient and looking for opportunities.
“The heat and humidity was definitely a factor since we haven’t been training in it most of the year. Overall, it was a good team performance and a tough (and important) EIAC win,” he added.
Batesville controlled the ball and put a lot of pressure on the Lawrenceburg defense from the very start. For most of the opening half, the ball remained in the Tiger defensive half of the field as the Bulldogs searched for scoring opportunities, according to Fox.
The persistence paid off when Josh Keith pushed a loose ball through to Luis Davalos. Davalos quickly got a shot off in traffic that ended up just out of reach of the Tiger goalkeeper for the only goal of the half.
The second hald was more productive for the Bulldogs.
John Hamm sent a well-placed cross into the box to Keith. Keith settled the ball and slotted it into the side net of the goal to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. With less than two minutes on the clock, a Lawrenceburg defender was called for a foul in the penalty box and Batesville’s Austin Meyer stepped to the line and converted to make it 3-0.
