Twisters get one win and tie Pirates

The Batesville Herald-Tribune

---- — The Oldenburg Academy Twisters and Greensburg Pirates played to a 2-2 in boys varsity soccer action.

“It wasn’t the outcome that we wanted on the scoreboard, but the play on the field was much better than our last game,” OA head coach Ken Getz commented. “The game of soccer is a game of mistakes - it’s what you do with the mistakes that determines the outcome on the scoreboard.

“Greensburg capitalized on two of our mistakes in the defensive third to score both their goals,” he added.

All four goals were scored in the first half.

Daniel Mullen and Taylor Reed scored goals for the Twisters. Ted Geis got the assist on the Reed goal, while Reed was credited with one to Mullen.

“I thought that Ted (Geis) and Taylor (Reed) controlled the middle of the field and helped to give us ample scoring chances,” Getz noted. “Nate Hollingsworth came off the bench to give us a spark in the second half.

“Nate gives us that extra energy he may not always be in the right spot but hustles on every play.” he added.

Tye Fleetwood scored both goals for the Pirates.

Twisters win at home over Hauser

The Twisters scored early in the match and went on to post a 3-0 victory over the visiting Hauser Jets.

“It was nice to put a score on the board early last night on a gorgeous night at the cemetery for soccer, Getz commented. “Hauser is pretty strong on top as they have some good strikers which got off a lot of shots.

“Our defense held its own and pitched a shutout for the second time this year,” he added.

The coach credited Matty Hurm as a key to the team’s success. “After playing his first two years at a mid we switched him to defense this year,” Getz commented. “Matty has taken the sweeper position and the challenges that come with it.

“Give credit to his friends on defense Luke (Weisenbach), Josh (Kinker), Mark (Hoog) and Tyler (Wachsmann),” he added.

Goalkeeper Jeremy Kelnhofer recorded his second shutout of the year.

Brian Weberding scored in the first period at the 8:13 mark on an assist by Aaron Huber. Taylor Reed later scored on an assist by Jordan Kramer to put the Twisters on top 2-0 in the first half.

Reed struck again in period two at the 9:06 mark to cap the cap the scoring.

Oldenburg had 21 shots compared to 16 by the Jets.
