East Central blanks OA 5-0

The Oldenburg Academy Twisters traveled to the Columbus District 5 tournament this past weekend and came away with one tie and a loss.

The Lady Twisters battled to a 3-3 tie with Seymour.

Oldenburg Academy fell behind 2-0 in the first half ended.

Oldenburg junior Sarah Wilder took a 30 yard shot that bounced right over the keepers head to cut the deficit to 2-1 before the intermission.

The second half was better for the Lady Twisters.

“We came out very strong,” OA coach Kendra Getz commented. “The girls were starting to work together and all of the hard work this summer was definitely paying off.”

Wilder took control of the second half with two goals as the Lady Twisters went up 3-2.

However, Seymour counted with less than five minutes to knot the score at 3-3.

“The girls played very well and the underclassman are stepping up and filling the positions where seniors stood last year,” Getza commented. “Defensively the girls did very well - Regan Weberding, Hannah Teaney, Maddy Hogg, Nichole Flashpohler, and Sam Rohring are coming together and it definitely showed how well our defensive will be later in the season with more time.”

The Lady Twisters were defeated by East Central in the second game by a score of 5-0.

Coach Getz was pleased with the team’s play in the first half. Oldenburg went into halftime trailing by a slim 1-0 margin.

“The second half got away from the girls,” Getz noted.

The Lady Trojans added four second half goals to put the game well out of reach.

Melody Lutz scored on an assist by Sarah Rosenzweig to give the Lady Trojans the halftime lead.

Madison Wiedeman scored twice and Lutz added two more goals to help the Lady Trojans pull away. Assists were recorded Kiley Rogers and Rachael Sicking.
