Bulldogs advance to semifinals against host Greensburg

BATESVILLE — The Batesville High School varsity basketball team improved to 19-2 on the season with a 78-47 victory over the Franklin  County Wildcats in the sectional tournament Wednesday night in Greensburg.

The Bulldogs took control of the game from the start. Senior Mike Hoeing hit back-to-back field goals to put Batesville on top 9-2.

A field goal by Bryan Hoeing sandwiched in between a pair of Kassidy Kase 3-pointers closed out the first quarter. Kase scored 11 of his team-high 19 points as the Bulldogs led 22-8 at the break.

The Bulldogs continued to pressure the Wildcats and stretched their lead to 20 points on a 3-pointer by Wes McKinney. It remained that way as BHS led 40-20 at halftime.

McKinney continued to produce for the Bulldogs. The junior forward scored eight of his 17 points to guide the Bulldogs to a 61-34 lead by the end of the third.

As the game got deeper into the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs substituted freely to give a variety of players opportunity.

The Wildcats got a big night from Zach Sizemore. The senior guard finished with a game-high 23 points. Defensively, they were able to hold Bryan Hoeing to only 12 points.

Top 10 teams to

meet on Friday

Both the Greensburg Pirates and Batesville Bulldogs were victorious Wednesday night to set up a match-up between the No. 2 and 8 teams in Class 3A tournament action.

It will be the third meeting this season between the two hardwood rivals with each winning one time. It is the only loss of the season for the No. 2 ranked Pirates.

The Bulldogs and Pirates will play in the second game Friday night in the sectional semifinals at Greensburg. The game will follow Madison and Rushville.
