Twisters win sectional title in boys soccer

The Oldenburg Academy boys varsity soccer team earned the right to be called sectional champions.

The No. 17 ranked Twisters defeated Hauser 5-0 in the finals of the Waldron Sectional and won a berth in the Knightstown Regional.

“We seemed to start out a little tight … not quite on top of our game,” OA head coach Ken Getz commented. “We needed a spark and we got that from Jordan Kramer as he scored his biggest goal of the season.”

Kramer scored his eventual game-winner seconds after entering the game. He scored in the first period at the 18:21 mark assisted by Taylor Reed on a pass to the outside.  Kramer took the shot at full stride and buried it into the upper right of the net, according to Getz.

“After that I thought we settled down and played pretty good over the final 60 minutes,” Getz added.

The Twisters took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The second half was much more productive on offense for the Twisters.

Hayden Johnson scored the second goal at the 38:14 mark in period two on an assist by Daniel.  Reed scored the team’s third goal unassisted on a direct kick from just outside the 18.

Josh Kinker found the back of the net at the 5:17 mark assisted by Mullen on a through ball up the middle, according to Getz. Kinker ran it down and took the shot from the top of the 18.  Mullen scored the final goal on an assist by Luke Ruter.

Reed and Ted Geis drew praise from Getz for their good midfield play. “When we play through Taylor and Ted and they play fast it sure does open up chances for our offense.”

Defensively, OA continued to play well. The Twisters records their seventh shutout of the season and the third in a row. Keeper Jeremy Kelnhofer was credited for four saves, while Brian Weberding had one.

The Twisters finished the match with 25 shots (16 on goal), while Jets managed only five shots on goal.
