---- — The Oldenburg Academy Twisters suffered their third loss of the football season Friday night.
The Twisters were defeated 61-19 by Indianapolis Arlington.
The offense seems to be ahead of the defense as the Twisters get the football program off the ground.
“Our offense moved the ball on Arlington most of the night,” OA head coach Wes Gillman commented. “We finished with 306 total yards.
“We continued to struggle defensively with our open field tackling. I can see where our team is improving overall, but struggling defensively to put four quarters together. I attribute that to lack of numbers and inexperience,” he added.
The Twisters did turn the ball over a couple times that led to Arlington scores.
Oldenburg scored in the first quarter on an 11 yard pass from quarterback Matt Moorman to tight end Jason Kline. Brian Weberding added the extra point.
The first quarter closed with Arlington on top 21-7. After scoring 20 unanswered points in the second quarter, the Golden Knights entered halftime with a 41-7 lead.
Both second half touchdowns came through the air for the Twisters. Moorman connected with Kline for a second time in the third quarter, while Luke Roberts threw to Dominic Cigolotti in the fourth.
Roberts rushed the ball 14 times for a total of 128 yards. He also replaced Moorman late in the game and threw for 33 yards on three attempts. Moorman finished the game with 100 yards passing and 44 rushing.
Kline was OA’s top receiver with six catches for 57 yards. Cigolotti was second with three receptions and 33 yards.
The Twisters have this week off and will return to action on Friday, Sept. 20, when they play Trader’s Point Christian Academy at Earlham College in Richmond.
