Batesville advances golfer to regionals

McGinn leads OA

Despite solid performances on the golf course at the Greensburg Sectional Friday, June 6, the Batesville boys’ golf team fell short of another trip to the regional tournament.

Golfers at two Columbus high schools excelled at that contest. North won the team sectional title, while East was runner-up. In third place was Greensburg.

Batesville placed fourth overall in the boys’ golf tournament at the Greensburg Country Club. The Bulldogs missed qualifying as a team for regional by 10 strokes.

For a team to advance to the regional, it needs to score in the top three. However, Bulldog All-Conference golfer Dominique Schildknecht, who carded a 79, did qualify because his score was in the top three of golfers on non-qualifying teams.

Schildknecht shot for par on 10 holes, posting a 40 on the front nine and a 39 on the back.

Batesville’s second-lowest scorer was William Carroll, who shot an 81. Carroll highlighted his day with a birdie on the sixth hole, and added seven shots for par. Those seven shots enabled Carroll to improve his back-nine score by three strokes.

Following were All-Conference senior Alec Giesting and Ryan Harmeyer, each with an 85. Giesting recorded par on nine holes, shooting a 44 on the front nine and a 41 on the back. Harmeyer shot for par four times, posting a 43 on the front and a 42 on the back.

All-Conference senior Henry Luchow (93) carded a 48 on the front and a 45 on the back.

Taking the individual sectional blue ribbon was Columbus North’s Michael VanDeventer, shooting a 69.

McGinn leads Twister golfers

Two golfers represented Oldenburg Academy at sectionals. Kole McGinn shot a 45 on the front nine, but improved his back nine score to come away with an 88 for the day. McGinn tallied two birdies – one on the 13th hole and one on the 16th – to highlight his outing.

Liam Mungcal shot a 93, carding a 46 on the front and a 47 on the back. Mungcal dropped in a birdie on the 15th hole, and shot for par on the fourth and seventh holes.
