Lady Bulldogs end tennis season at regionals

The Batesville High School tennis team advanced to the Richmond Regional finals with a convincing victory over Rushville.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Lions by a score of 5-0.

“Winning the sectional was a nice accomplishment,” BHS coach Bryan Helvie commented. “The girls played extremely well to win the title. And that carried over to the first round of the regional. The ladies played as well as they have all season at all five positions,” he added.

The Lady Bulldogs yielded only three games over the three singles matches.

Batesville senior Sarah Hoseus was a 6-0 and 6-3 winner over Allison Wainwright at No. 1 singles.

Junior Lydia Olsen claimed a straight set victory at No. 2 singles. She defeated Katie Schroeder 6-0 and 6-0.

Allyson Ritter mirrored Olsen’s outcome. The BHS senior was a 6-0, 6-0 winner against Sarah Harpring at No. 3.

The outcomes were convincing as well in doubles action.

Brooke Bradford and Kelli Hartman triumphed 6-2, 6-2 over Jill Yager and Casey Yager at No. 1, while Karsen Worthington and Macy Simon teamed up for a straight set win over Nici Martin and Sarah Hershberger at No. 2.

Lady Bulldogs fallin finals

Batesville traveled to Richmond for a second straight night May 29, but this time came up just short.

The Lady Bulldogs were defeated 4-1 by the host Lady Red Devils.

The lone victory came at No. 1 doubles. Hartman and Bradford were 6-3 and 6-4 winners over Kaitlyn Harrison and Cami Jones. The victory kept Bradford and Hartman alive in the individual portion of the IHSAA tournament.

The Lady Red Devils were winners in the other four matches.

Peyton Young defeated Hoseus 6-0 and 7-5, while Rei Tsuyuki beat Olsen 6-2 and 6-0.

The No. 2 doubles team of Emma Lady and Krissy Kramer beat Worthington and Simon 6-4 and 6-2.

Kaitlyn Kramer and Ritter stretched their match at No. 3 singles over two nights because of rain. Kramer won the first set 6-3, then Ritter answered with a 6-0 win in the second. Kramer took the third and deciding set 6-0.
