The boys’ track team traveled to Connersville to participate in a highly competitive regional meet May 29. Coach Lisa Gausman observes, “Coming off a fun sectional championship, we had all but the shot put represented, which is pretty amazing. Even though we didn’t have many score points or any move on to state, we did have several personal records and an opportunity for our underclassmen to get another big meet experience.”
The Bulldogs came in 24th, scoring 5 points out of 31 scoring teams. Scoring for Batesville was Pete Heil, sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal record time of 40.99. Also scoring for the team were Nathan Longstreth and Tom Chaffee, both tying for seventh place by clearing 5-10 in high jump.
She added, “We had a couple of ninth-place finishes, just shy of the ribbon position.” They were the 4 x 100 relay team of Clayton McKinley, Michael Tunny, Jacob Koehne and Tanner Ayette and the 4 x 400 team (missing eighth place by .0006 seconds) of Nathan Longstreth, John Moody, Pete Heil and Michael Tunny.
Those finishing their season with personal bests were Pete Heil, 300-meter hurdles; Garrett Yorn and Connor Bell, 800-meter runs; Pete Heil, John Moody and Michael Tunny, 4 x 400 split; and Chris Riffle, 4 x 800 split.
Gausman concluded, “It has been a super fun year with these boys. They work hard and not only have awesome team spirit but great team camaraderie as well. With only four seniors competing at regionals this year, next year the future looks bright!”
