BHS tennis team wins
The Batesville High School tennis team opened sectional play with a 5-0 victory over the host South Dearborn Lady Knights, according to coach Bryan Helvie.
The match was played over two nights because of stormy weather Wednesday, May 21.
Sarah Hoseus, Lydia Olsen and Allyson Ritter each won singles matches on Wednesday to secure the team victory on night one.
Hoseus defeated Shelbi Yoe 6-3 and 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Olsen was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Carley Ochs at No. 2, while Ritter triumphed 6-0 and 6-0 over Brianna Johnson at No. 3.
One night later, Kelli Hartman and Brook Bradford teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles, while Macy Simon and Karsen Worthington won at No. 2.
Seton bests Oldenburg
Oldenburg Academy dropped its baseball season record to 11-9 with a 10-3 loss at Seton Catholic High School in Richmond May 21, reported coach Doug Behlmer.
Seton Catholic scored three in the first, but Oldenburg answered with one in the second. Seton got that run back in the bottom of the second inning, and then put the game away in the fifth inning scoring six runs.
Cory Schuman was 1 for 3 with a triple and an RBI. Nick Bischoff was on base three times with a hit, walk and was hit by a pitch. He scored once.
After competing in the Morristown Invitational Memorial Day weekend, the Twisters will play South Decatur in Sectional 60 of the baseball tournament at Shawe Memorial High School in Madison at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 28.
BHS golfers lose in Columbus
The Batesville High School boys golf team was defeated by the Columbus East High School team 163-150 at Otter Creek North Course May 22, said coach Ben Siefert.
Henry Luchow, Batesville, was the medalist.
BHS individual scores: Luchow, 35; Dominique Schildknecht, 42; Alec Giesting, Ryan Harmeyer and Thomas Hatcher, 43; Billy Carroll, 51.
Scores for BHS junior varsity golfers: Brandon Rose, 43; Jacob Vogelsang, 44; Jake Flaspohler, 50.
