Bulldogs successful at JV conference meet

During the weekend of May 17-18, the Batesville High School track and field team competed at the junior varsity conference meet hosted by South Dearborn High School. Coach Lisa Gausman noted, “This was not a team scored event, but awards were given to the top six in each event. Batesville had many conference champs.”

They included Mitchell Gudgeon, shot put; Libby Stenger, long jump; Sarah Call, discus; Madeleine Robben, 200m dash; Molly Weigel, 300m hurdles; Maria Wessel, 3200m run; and Lauren Eckstein, 800m and 1600m runs.

Two relay teams also scored well: 4 x 800, Maria Wessel, Molly Weigel, Katie Baumer and Lauren Eckstein; 4 x 100, Beth Werner, Annie Freese, Madaleine Robben and Alison Muckerheide.

Second-place finishes were awarded to Kylie Lehman, 3200m run; Katie Baumer, 1600m run; Madeleine Robben, 100m dash; Alison Muckerheide, long jump; Clay Yeaton, 800m run; and Jon Kurtz, 400m dash.

Relay team runners-up were 4 x 800, Sarah Canady, Kylie Lehman, Heidi Shaw and Jazmin Blanco; 4 x 400, Molly Weigel, Kelsey Forbeck, Laura Meer and Beth Werner; and 4 x 100, Kelsey Forbeck, Lexi McCloud, Jodi Johnson and Libby Stenger.

Third-place ribbons went to Alison Muckerheide, 200m dash; Sarah Canady, 800m run; Jazmin Blanco, 1600m run; Beth Werner, 100m dash and long jump; Katherine Roell, shot put; Alex Jorgensen, long jump and 200m dash; Clay Yeaton, 1600m run; and 4 x 400 relay team, Trevor Gartenman, Drake Main, Jon Kurtz and Alex Jorgensen.

Five earned fourth-place ribbons: Heidi Shaw, 800m run; Annie Freese, 100m dash; Sarah Canady, high jump; Clay Yeaton, 3200m run; and Jon Kurtz, 200m dash.

Fifth-place finishers included Libby Stenger, high jump; Jodi Johnson, 100m dash; and Lupe Blanco, long jump.

Three came in sixth in their events: Libby Stenger, 200m dash; Shawn Czerniak, shot put and discus; and Trevor Gartenman, 100m and 400m dashes.

Many athletes finished their season with personal records: 100m dash – Trevor Gartenman, Libby Stenger and Lexi McCloud; 200m dash – Alex Jorgensen, Jon Kurtz and Laura Meer; 400m dash – Jon Kurtz; 800m run – Clay Yeaton, Lauren Eckstein, Candice Roell and Heidi Shaw; 1600m run – Clay Yeaton, Candice Roell and Katie Baumer; 3200m run – Maria Wessel; shot put – Katherine Roell; long jump – Libby Stenger, Alison Muckerheide and Beth Werner; 4 x 800 split – Lauren Eckstein, Kylie Lehman, Katie Baumer and Molly Weigel; 4 x 400 split, Jon Kurtz, Drake Main and Trevor Gartenman.

“It was a great finish to the JV season,” Gausman said.
