---- — The Batesville High School boys track and field team pulled away from the other seven teams to claim the title at the annual South Dearborn Invitational.
The Bulldogs tallied a winning total of 149 points, which was well ahead of second placing Lawrenceburg with 64. Rising Sun placed third in the boys division with 63 points. Oldenburg Academy was eighth with 34 points.
The Bulldogs were led by the strength of the relay teams. Batesville won all three relay events.
Michael Tunny, Zach Mears, Jacob Koehne and Tanner Ayette placed first in the 4 x 100-meter relay with a time of 45.42. Winning the 4 x 400 relay with time of 3:38.12 were Peter Heil, John Moody, Nathan Longstreth and Tunny. Cole Nuhring, Caleb Moster, Connor Bell and Garrett Yorn opened the boys portion of the meet with a time of 8:42.61 to win the 4 x 800 relay.
Individual first place honors were achieved by two Bulldogs. Ben Westerfeld was a winner in the pole vault competition with a height of 12-feet. Sophomore Kevin Bedel won the discus competition with a distance of 122-06.
Second place finishers for the Bulldogs included Heil (400m run), Yorn (800m run), Matt Dennis (300m hurdles), Robert Strobel (pole vault) and Jordan Moorman (discus).
The Oldenburg Academy Twisters were led by freshman Curt Eckstein. Eckstein placed second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:47.36 and runner-up in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:24.17.
Eckstein was also a member of the second placing 4 x 800-meter relay team. Eckstein, Isaiah Frey, Jared Hasselbring and Luke Wukusick teamed up for a time of 8:52.46.
