Lady Bulldogs fall to EC in tennis

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Lady Bulldogs suffered a 4-1 loss to East Central in varsity tennis action.

Batesville seniors Ali Meyer and Emily Helvie recorded the team’s lone victory. Meyer and Helvie defeated Clare Struewing and Kelly Weigel 6-2 and 7-6 (11-9).

Matches at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles went three sets, but both went to the Lady Trojans. Claire Kern and Abby Ashton were 6-4, 5-7 and 6-2 winners over Batesville’s Kelli Hartman and Brooke Bradford. East Central junior Alyssa DeFiglio beat Sarah Hoseus 5-7, 6-2 and 7-5 in a match that lasted well over two hours.

Other winners for the Lady Trojans were Abby Sweeney and Conner Struewing. Sweeney defeated Ellen Heppner 6-2 and 6-2, while Struewing was a 6-2 and 6-4 winner over Lydia Olsen.

The Batesville junior varsity was a 3-2 winner over the Lady Trojans.

Recording wins for Batesville were Emily Shaw and a pair of doubles teams. Gabby Cooper and Erin Longstreth teamed  up at No. 1 doubles, while Jenna Harmeyer and Grace Heppner won at No. 2.
