The Batesville Bulldogs picked up their first win on the baseball diamond Thursday night with a 9-6 victory at South Decatur.
The Bulldogs took an early lead and made it hold up.
Batesville scored three runs in the first inning, one in the second and two in the third. The Bulldogs then added three more over the final four innings to take a 9-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
Nick Kirschner, Bryan Hoeing and Connor Schuck were all successful at the plate with three hits. Both Hoeing and Schuck scored twice to the team.
The Bulldogs finished with a total of 14 hits against the Cougar pitching.
Austin Westerfeld got the start on the mound and went six innings. He gave up just one run and three hits, while striking out five. Noah Gausman tossed the final inning in relief.
The Bulldogs are now 1-1 on the season.
