The East Central Trojans opened the baseball season with a pair of convincing victories over Madison.
The Trojans took the first game of a doubleheader 10-0 and followed up with a 7-0 win in the second.
Nick DeZarn too the mound for EC and gave up just one hit in five innings of work. The junior pitcher struck out seven and walked just two.
The Trojans scored at least one run in all five innings. A four run effort in the fourth was most with two runs scored in both the second and fifth.
Payton Stonefield, Lucas Gramman and Cody Tallon each finished with a pair of hits. Stonefield, Gramman, Spencer Gutaphfel and Ethan Kramer each drove in a pair of runs.
In game two, the Trojans broke the game open with five runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Mitch Schuman doubled and drove in three runs to lead EC at the plate. Tallon scored twice.
Kramer got the start on the mound and struck out nine in six innings. Relief pitcher AJ Schomber struck out the side in the seventh to preserve the victory.
