BATESVILLE — The Greensburg High School boys basketball team won its second consecutive Indiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A state title Saturday evening at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The Pirates knocked off the Bowman Academy Eagles by a score of 89-76.
Coach Stacy Meyer’s squad was nearly unstoppable at the offensive end. The Pirates scored at least 22 points in each quarter. They took a 22-15 first quarter lead and it grew to 44-35 by halftime. The second half was much of the same with Greensburg outscoring the Eagles 22-19 in the third and then 23-22 in the fourth.
Greensburg’s largest lead of the game was 19 points with 5:39 to play in the fourth quarter.
The Pirates were led by senior Sean Sellers with 27 points and 16 rebounds. Sellers finished the game 11-of-13 from the free throw line. Collin Rigney was an impressive 7-of-10 from 3-point range and finished with 23 points. Ryan Welage was third on the team with 21 points. Senior Bryant McIntosh was held to eight points, but finished with a team-high 11 assists.
Bowman Academy was led in scoring by Davon Dillard with 21 points followed by Austin Daniels with 14. Justin King scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
The Pirates finished the season with a record of 28-1 with the only loss coming on Jan. 24 to Madison. Greensburg was 54-2 over the two championship seasons. Batesville managed the only win over the Pirates in the 2012-13 season.
