Lady Bulldogs win EIAC track and field title

BATESVILLE — It has been 32 years in the making. The Lady Bulldogs have been close, but Thursday night they were able to win the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference title for the first time since 1981.

“This was definitely a team effort as many of the ladies performed above their seeded times and scored more points for the Bulldogs ... Way to go ladies,” BHS coach Lisa Gausman commented.

The weather was a factor. A 45-minute delay forced athletes to shelter, but when they emerged the Lady Bulldogs continued in their quest.

The Lady Bulldogs finished with a team score of 160 points, which was well ahead of the host Lady Trojans (138.5). South Dearborn (106) was third followed by Greensburg (56), Franklin County (22.5) and

Lawrenceburg (8).

Batesville junior Rylee Goldsmith was named the meet’s Most Valuable Player by scoring the highest number of points. Goldsmith won the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:01.38 and the high jump with a height of 5’2”. Goldsmith finished with 24 points.

Batesville pole vaulter Dani Strobel set a new school record with a winning height of 9’9”.

Other individual champions for the Lady Bulldogs were Ginny Westerfeld (100m dash, 12.72), Kelsey Gausman (800m run, 2:27.86), Emily Meer (300m hurdles, 49.63) and Kim Tidman (Long Jump, 16’2”).

Second place honors went to Westerfeld (200m dash), Gausman (1,600m run), Meer (100m hurdles), Tidman (high jump) and Courtney McCray (shot put).

The girls 4 x 400-meter relay team of Tidman, Meer, Gausman and Goldsmith were runner-up.

Collecting valuable points in third place were Audrey Hall (400m dash), Whitney McCray (100m hurdles) and the 4 x 800-meter relay team of Abbie Krieg, Andrea Nobbe, Lauren Eckstein and Gausman.

Fourth place finishers included Nobbe (800m run), Maria Wessel (3,200m run) and Cassie Reverman (shot put).
