The Batesville High School varsity basketball team advanced to the Sectional 29 championship game with a convincing 70-46 victory over the Lawrenceburg Tigers on Friday night.
The two teams traded baskets most of the first quarter and the Bulldogs led 13-12 at the first stop.
Batesville outscored the Tigers 10-2 over the final 3:26 to take a 30-22 lead into halftime. Blake Walsman, Wes McKinney and Bryan Hoeing each scored during the run.
It was a good start to the third quarter for the Bulldogs and set the tone for the rest of the game. Nathan Longstreth knocked down the opening basket followed by a 3-pointer by McKinney.
Hoeing, Walsman and McKinney countered a field goal by Tiger Mitch Martin to make it a 42-24 game.
The third quarter ended with the Bulldogs in front 49-35.
The game started to slip away from the Tigers early in the fourth quarter. An 8-0 run by the Bulldogs prompted a Lawrenceburg timeout with 4:22 to play in the game.
It was not long the Batesville lead reached 64-43 and it was clear the Bulldogs were moving on the sectional finals.
McKinney and Walsman led the way with 21 points apiece followed closely by Hoeing with 20.
