BHS football parents will meet

The Batesville High School Football Parents Club organizational meeting for all parents of new players is Wednesday, July 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the BHS cafeteria (enter through back doors).

Youth rifle shoot this weekend

The National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association hosts a youth shoot event for ages 17 and under from Friday, July 11, at 5 p.m. to Sunday, July 13, at 2 p.m. in Friendship.

“We generally have 150-200 youth shooting a variety of firearms and disciplines,” said coordinator Scott Mings. “We teach gun safety, proper handling of a firearm and how to shoot competitively. This is our 12th year hosting the event.”

Besides competitive shooting and training, the event also includes tomahawk throwing, and bow and target shooting. The cost is $20 per child (family camping included).

A weekend of off-road activities

The DINO (Do INdiana Off-road) organization, based in Indianapolis, is active at Versailles State Park this month with two events: Xterra DINO Triathlon, Saturday, July 19;Kenda DINO Mountain Bike Series for all ages and abilities, distance varies between 8 to 30 miles, Sunday, July 20.

Golf scramble aids Special Olympics

A golf scramble fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics Indiana of Ripley, Ohio and Dearborn counties is scheduled for Monday, July 28, at Hidden Valley Golf Club, Lawrenceburg. It will be a four-person scramble with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Area Special Olympics athletes who attended the 2014 USA Games in New Jersey (Christa Mullins, Dillsboro; Becky Cashman, Bear Branch; and Jacob Eldridge, Manchester) will be available for a meet-and-greet.

The registration deadline is July 21. A $125 entry fee includes lunch, green fees, cart, dinner, beverages, plus an additional round of golf. Check-in opens at 11 a.m., with lunch served at 11:30 a.m. Organizers are seeking hole sponsors and door prizes.
