The first ever meeting between the Batesville Lumbermen and Vevay White Stockings took place at Liberty Park June 29.
“The first match saw the Lumbermen jump out to an early 6-0 lead only to have the White Stockings post four tallies (runs) in the fifth inning,” noted coach and player Tim Fullenkamp. The Lumbermen added one in the sixth and held on for a 7-5 victory. Defense was the key as the Lumbermen shut down a very potent White Stockings offense.
“The second match was really no contest as the White Stockings bats got hot. They pelted the left field line with one mighty strike after another. Once the dust had settled, the White Stockings cruised to an 18-6 victory,” he said.
Hitting totals for the two games: Chris “Quickhands” Casablanca went 6 for 7, Derek “Moonlight” Laker went 5 for 6, Dan “Wheels” Schuman went 5 for 7 and Scott “Shag” Weberding and Mark “Spider” Stenger each went 4 for 5.
Anthony “Big City” Casablanca and Jacob “Shrugs” Koester each went 4 for 6 and Matthew “Pudge” Fullenkamp went 3 for 6.
The Lumbermen play next at Liberty Park Sunday, July 13, against the Losantiville Black Stockings. First pitch is at 1 p.m. “Hope to see you there!” the coach said.
