Stingrays suffer loss in opener

The Batesville Stingrays lost to the Milan Swim Team Thursday, June 12, at the Batesville Memorial Pool. “Going into the competition, the Milan team had much more time in the water and meet experience than the Batesville swimmers,” pointed out parent Laura Geis.

Head coach Mark Blanton explained, “Although the score reflected a loss, we saw many improvements from last year and much promise for our new swimmers. We had only seven (stroke) disqualifications for the meet, so we are making tremendous improvements technically.”

Several swimmers scored in the top three for their events: Sarah Bedel (40 free), Taylor Blanton (25 back and 25 fly), Ethan Brewer (40 fly), Sean Callahan (40 back), Lauren Caplinger (80 free), Hannah Cox (160 IM), Cody Engstrom (25 free, 25 breast, 25 back and 25 fly), Jenna Ertel (80 breast), Mikaela Fangman (80 breast), Amaia Fullenkamp (25 free and 25 fly), Aiden Geers (40 free), Nate Geis (80 free), Ryan Geis (25 free), John Gerstbauer (40 free), Ella Gutzwiller (80 back), Emily Gutzwiller (80 breast, 80 fly and 160 IM), Kyra Hall (160 IM), Tara Hall (25 breast, 25 back, 40 free and 160 IM), Thomas Hatcher (80 fly, 80 free and 160 IM), William Hillenbrand (25 free and 25 back), Nathan Hurm (80 back), David Koch (25 free and 25 back).
