OA travels to Lousville for big race

The Oldenburg Academy cross country teams packed up and headed south to compete in the Greater Louisville Classic Cross Country Invitational at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.

The Lady Twisters did more than hold their own at the 36-team race. Oldenburg finished second with a team score of 149 points. Nerinx Hall High School won the team title with 54 points.

β€œI was very pleased with the way they ran,” OA head coach Merle Hines commented. β€œIt was an amazing experience for the girls.”

Senior Sarah Billingsley was the top finisher for the Lady Twisters and she crossed the finish line third overall with a time of 18:48.

Meredith Maier was 13th overall in the 249 runner field. The OA senior finished with a time of 19:42.

Ashley Sedler (33rd), Rachel Billingsley (51st) and Kirsten Ricke (59th) were the next three OA runners to complete the course for coach Hines. Sedler had a time of 20:03, while Billingsley and Ricke were both with one minute of their teammate.

Haleigh Reed (61st) and Madelyn Maier (100th) rounded out the line-up for OA.

OA boys finish 14th

It has been a good season for the Oldenburg boys team and Saturday was not a letdown.

The Twisters placed 14th in the field of 36.

Again, it was the two freshman leading the way.

Curtis Eckstein made his way around the 5K course in a time of 17:05, which was good enough for 27th place. Justin Fledderman was 18 places back in a time of 17:22.

Isaiah Frey was the third OA runner across the line. He placed 107th overall with a time of 18:21. Luke Wukusick was not far behind with a time of 18:57, but 45 places separated the two.

Other competing for the Twisters were Jared Hasselbring, Gabe Frey and Chris Nurrenberg. Hasselbring filled the final scoring position for the Twisters in 172nd overall with a time of 19:13.
