Oldenburg Academy wins one of last three

Twisters beat Greenwood Christian

The Oldenburg Academy boys varsity basketball team picked up a good win on Monday to kick off a period of three games in four days this week leading up to sectional play.

The Twisters were 60-54 winners over Greenwood Christian.

Oldenburg trailed 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, but rallied for 21 second quarter points to take a 33-26 at halftime.

The Twisters hit five 3-pointers in the second quarter. Matty Hurm and Kurt Sarringhaus each hit a pair, while Drew Kloepfer added another.

Greenwood Christian held the Twisters to only nine points in the third quarter, but could not make up much ground. Oldenburg held a 42-38 lead entering the final eight minutes.

The Twisters secured the victory by hitting 11-of-13 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Hurm finished with a team high 16 points. He had a trio of 3-pointers and went 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Sarringhaus was second on the team with 15 points.

Greenwood Christian's Lucas Peters led all scorers with 30 points.

OA falls to Trinity Lutheran

The Twisters were defeated 68-63 by Trinity Lutheran just three days earlier.

The Cougars outscored OA 30-21 over the final eight minutes. Trinity attempted 18 free throws in the fourth quarter alone and hit 16 of them.

Matt Moorman led the way offensively for Oldenburg with 22 points. Sarringhaus hit six 3-pointers en route to a 20 point night.

Twisters suffer overtime loss

Oldenburg Academy traveled to Southwestern (Shelby) and came up short in overtime by a score of 72-67.

The Twisters trailed 39-37 at the end of the third quarter. Oldenburg forced overtime by outscoring the Spartans 22-20 over the final eight minutes. Sarringhaus sparked the Twisters with three 3-pointers.

The Spartans were a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line in the overtime to help preserve the victory.

Four different players scored in double figures for OA. Sarringhaus finished with a team-high 14 points followed by Moorman and Ted Geis with 12 apiece. Kloepfer was four on the team with 11 points.
