University of Evansville Men’s Basketball Player, Colt Ryan, has been named to NCSA Athletic Recruiting’s 2013 Athleader All-American Team. The Athleader All-American Team was chosen based upon nominations received from coaches, Sports Information Directors and Athletic Directors across the nation.
Only eight athletes were selected for the 2012-2013 inaugural year of this award. To be chosen for the All-American Team, athletes have to embody the characteristics of an Athleader; which is defined by not only exceling on the field, but by putting their team first, valuing their education and having a thirst for learning.
The “all-in” attitude of these players is made apparent through their all-out work ethic, as well as the legacy leave on the field, campus, and community. These athletes use these factors to lead by example and give back to empower others on their campus and in their community.
Ryan has been the definition of an Athleader during his time at the University of Evansville. As a Purple Ace, Ryan was a star on the men’s basketball team and now ranks first all-time at UE in career points with 2,279 points.
When nominating Ryan for this award, Senior Associate Athletics Director, Sarah Solinsky said, “Colt is a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Representative who makes time for others, often receiving requests to participate in volunteer activities and he happily gave of his time.”
In 2013,Ryan received the Ralph Coleman Scholar-Athlete Award for top male senior student-athlete at UE. During his career he was named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Scholar Athlete of the Year twice, and was a 2-time MVC First Team All-Conference selection. Ryan was also named to the MVC Honor Roll for 3 years. During his senior year he volunteered for multiple organizations in Indiana, including Race for the Cure, Special Olympics, the American Red Cross, YMCA and more.
