---- — Oldenburg Academy senior Sarah Billingsley capped her final season as a Twister with a ninth place finish at the IHSAA state finals.
As a result of her season, Billingsley was named to represent the state as an Indiana All-Star. The state’s best traveled to Kettering, Ohio, to compete in the Mideast Cross Country Championship at Indian Riffle Park.
Billingsley joined other top runners in the state to compete against some of the best from Ohio, Michigan and Illinois. Team Indiana needed a tie-breaker to edge out Michigan for the top spot.
The Oldenburg standout placed eighth overall with a time of 18:46. She was the third Indiana runner to complete the 5K course.
Megan O’Neil of Chippewa Hills in Michigan was the race winner with time of 18:15. Elena Lancioni (LaPorte) and Abigail Hostetler (Fremont) finished just ahead of Billingsley in fifth and seventh place, respectively.
One day later, Sarah and sister Rachel were in Terre Haute to compete in the Nike Cross National Midwest Regional meet held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
Sara Billingsley placed 26th in a field of 248 runners. Rachel Billingsley was 147th.
