---- — The Connersville Lady Spartans edged the Lady Bulldogs by three points to claim the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference team title on their home course Tuesday.
Batesville fell just short with a team score of 45 points. Greensburg was a distant third with 73 points followed by South Dearborn (88) and East Central (128).
“They all had great races and I am so proud of them, but Connersville also ran very well,” BHS coach Lisa Gausman commented. “I told several tonight, at the end of the race, if you crossed that line and felt like you gave all you could give, well, there is nothing else anyone could ask.”
The top 15 runners received all-conference recognition.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by senior Grace Yeaton in third place with a personal best time of 20:47.
Freshmen Mary Poltrack and Sarah Poltrack were not far behind their teammate. Mary was sixth overall with a time of 21:22, while sister Sarah was seventh in 21:23.
Sophomore Maria Wessel was the fourth BHS runners to earn all-conference. Wessel crossed the finish line 13th with a mark of 22:01.
Another freshman, Kylie Lehman, was fifth for the Lady Bulldogs. She placed 16th with a time of 22:39.
Rounding out the varsity field for Batesville included Elizabeth Cuttle (34th) and Breanna Hartman (37th).
Katie Baumer posted a personal best time and placed first in the junior varsity race. She was followed by teammate Jamie Day (3rd), Kelsey Forbeck (4th), Heidi Shaw (6th), and Candice Roell (13th).
The East Central Lady Trojans were led by freshman Carolyn Priebe in 18th place with a time of 22:56.
Andie Shugar (21st), Alexis Schoenfield (26th), Alexis Floyd (30th) and Jenna Wernke (33rd) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Trojans.
