The Batesville High School varsity boys soccer team remained undefeated on the season with a 3-1 victory over Madison.
Madison scored first to take the early lead and put the Bulldogs in unfamiliar territory.
The Cubs continued to keep the momentum until Ben Locker connected with a Thomas Hertel corner kick. Locker timed his run perfectly and headed the well placed cross into the goal to tie the game and give the Bulldogs the spark they needed, according to coach Chris Fox.
The goal seemed to jump start the Bulldogs as they began to play with more intensity and began to get into a better rhythm offensively.
Austin Schutte sent a well timed pass to Luis Davalos. Davalos collected the ball and slotted it around the Cub keeper to give Batesville the lead going into the halftime break.
The Bulldogs came out the second half and scored just five minutes into play.
Davalos weaved his way through the Madison defense and passed the ball into the net to give Batesville a 3-1 lead.
“I thought we came out very flat today and Madison really took it to us,” Fox commented. “The goal off the corner kick was key to getting us some momentum...and the goal just before the half gave us some breathing room.
“It was good for us to learn to play from behind. It is something we have not had to do this year,” he added.
The Batesville junior varsity remained undefeated with a 4-1 win against Oldenburg Academy.
With 16 minutes remaining in the first half, the Bulldogs were able to break the 0-0 tie. Jackson Bowser was scored on a deep shot off of a free kick.
Oldenburg answered within 90 seconds and the score would remain 1-1 at halftime.
The Bulldogs controlled possession much of the second half, according to coach Josh Meyer.
