Eckstein leads OA boys at Catholic state meet

The Oldenburg Academy boys placed eighth out of 14 teams at the annual Indiana Catholic Cross Country Championships hosted by Guerin Catholic High School.

The Twisters completed the day with a team score of 228, which was 13 points behind Cardinal Ritter. Cathedral was the team champion with 54 points followed by Brebeuf with 60. Bishop Dwenger (76), Guerin Catholic (80), Roncalli (142) and St. Joseph (214) also finished ahead of the Twisters.

Oldenburg freshman Curtis Eckstein led the way for Twisters with a 15th place finish. He crossed the line in a time of 16:25. The race winner Zack Snider of Brebeuf posted a time of 15:08.

Justin Fledderman was the second Twister to make his way to the end. Fledderman was 29th in a time of 16:51.

Isaiah Frey (58th), Luke Wukusick (63rd) and Jared Hasselbring (66th) rounded out the scoring for the Twisters. Also competing for OA were Gabe Frey (83rd) and Chris Nurrenberg (85th).

OA boys perfect at North Decatur

For the first time in 13 years, the Oldenburg Academy boys tallied a perfect score of 15 points to defeat the North Decatur Chargers.

Eckstein, Fledderman, Isaiah Frey, Wukusick and Hasselbring made up the top five for coach Merle Hines.

The second five were solid as well. Gabe Frey placed 11th followed by Nick Back (13th), Liam Mungcal (14th), Nurrenberg (18th) and Brian Ulrich (21st).
