The 2014 track season opened on Saturday with the annual Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference Indoor Track Meet hosted by East Central.
All the conference teams were present except Rushville. This is not a team scored meet, but individual awards are given, according to coach Lisa Gausman.
Batesville High School athletes recorded four first place finishes.
Ginny Westerfeld won the 55- and 200-meter dashes. Westerfeld set new meet records in both of these events. She broke her own record in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.56. Her time of 28.26 broke a 2008 mark in the 200.
Other first place finishes went to Peter Heil in the 400-meter dash (57.46) and Mary Poltrack in the 1600-meter run (6:11.45).
Several Bulldogs turned in runner-up performances. Second place honores were to Heil (55m dash), Kelsey Gausman (800m run), Grace Yeaton (1600m run) and Tom Chaffee (high jump).
The 4 x 800 team of Yeaton, Mary Poltrack, Sarah Poltrack and Gausman placed second with a time of 11:18.27.
The sprint Medley team of Madeleine Robben, Alison Muckerheide, Beth Werner and Ginny Westerfeld were second with a mark of 2:03.45.
Third place finishes were Cassie Reverman (shot put), Clayton McKinley (high jump) and Clare Bruns (55m dash). The 4 x 400 team of Garrett Yorn, Caleb Moster, Trevor Gartenman and Heil placed third as did the 4 x 800 team of Yorn, Connor Bell, Chris Riffle and Moster. The sprint medley team of Jacob Koehne, Cody Reer, Tom Chaffee and Heil were third as well.
