Nobbe wins season points title

It is not a typical path for a teenager to take.

Many young adults can be found at the movies or with high school friends on Friday and Saturday nights.

That is not always the case for Batesville High School senior Dustin Nobbe.

Nobbe, 17, devotes much of his time to a passion handed down from family members.

The Nobbe family is known in the Batesville area for racing cars. Ted Nobbe has been quite successful on the local circuits and now son Dustin is following in his footsteps.

“I have always enjoyed working on race cars,” he said. “Dad and grandpa do it also so it is kind of a family tradition.”

The younger Nobbe began racing in April of 2012 and quickly ascended to the top of the Pure Stock division.

Dustin won his first Pure Stock season points championship in 2013 at the Florence Speedway in Union, Ky.

He was honored for his season-long accomplishments on the one-half mile high-banked dirt track at a banquet held in January. He raced his Chevy Monte Carlo to four feature wins - Fire/Police Night, LM Special, L&M Performance and Denny Kleier Memorial. He had nine Top 5 finishes and placed in the Top 10 a total of 13 times for an average finish of 3.84. He was also a winner of seven heat races this past season.

For his accomplishment, Nobbe was awarded a trophy that stood 4-plus feet tall, a Champions Jacket and a Florence Speedway “Pit Pass” for 2014.

There are a number of facets that intrigue the young driver, but it is “the excitement of racing side-by-side with others drivers” he really enjoys.

As for the age difference, it does not seem to bother Dustin. “There are not many my age,” he commented. “I was the youngest this year at Florence Speedway in the Pure Stock division by a lot.
