The Batesville High School varsity basketball team traveled to Lawrenceburg Friday night and left with its first win in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference.
Coming off a gutty win at New Castle three nights earlier, the Bulldogs were better in all facets of the game and earned a 68-42 victory over the Tigers.
The Bulldogs pressured the Tigers with a few different looks on defense. Each were successful as they held their opponents to less than 50 points for the second game in a row.
"I am pleased with the way we are improving defensively," BHS head coach Aaron Garrett commented. "They are doing a better job of communicating on the floor.
"I have been really pleased with the spark both Kassidy (Kase) and Bo (Gowan) have given us off the bench. Both have been able to use their quickness and defensive skills to give us a lift when we need it," he added.
The Bulldogs broke an 11-11 tie at the end of the first quarter to take a 33-19 lead at halftime.
Batesville countered a 3-pointer by Lawrenceburg's Riley Lansing to open the second quarter with a 13-0 run to make it 24-14. Gowan scored four points to jump start the Bulldogs followed by field goals by Blake Walsman, Bryan Hoeing and Matt Dennis.
The Bulldogs then scored the final seven points of the half to extend their lead to 14 points.
Coach Garrett's crew was least effective on the defensive end in the third quarter, but were able to maintain it 14 point cushion.
The Bulldogs answered by giving up only five points in the fourth quarter, which included a pair of field goals and a free throw.
Hoeing led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points, while Wesley McKinney, Walsman and Dennis each added 10.
