— BHS swimmers split at Connersville

The No. 16 ranked Batesville High School boys swim team opened the season with a double dual meet against Connersville and Rushville.

The Bulldogs were winners in the swimming portion, but when the diving results were added the outcome was different.

Batesville was edged by the host Spartans by a slim 53.5-47.5 margin. The Bulldogs finished ahead of Rushville by a score of 83-12.

“It was an exciting meet,” BHS head coach TJ Greene commented. “We won five events and tied in two events.

“Connersville won four events, but the forfeiture of diving was the difference,” he added.

Batesville had a number of good performances.

Matt Weiler (200 IM, 100 breast), Bryce Timoonera (100 fly, 100 back) and  Thomas Hatcher (100 free) each won individual events.  The 200 medley relay (Timonera, Hatcher, Weiler, Evan Miller) swam the fifth fastest time in school history and the 400 free relay (Hatcher, Timonera, Weiler, Chris Lambert) posted the eighth fastest ever at BHS.

Many swimmers posted personal best times at the meet.  They included  Spencer Deak (50 free), Grant Greene (100 breast), Jacob Hawkins (200 free/500 free), Chris Lambert (100 free/100 breast), Clayton McKinley (100 free), Seth Parker (50 back/200 IM) and Elliot Prickel (50 free).

“Anytime we see improvement this early in the season, it is a positive thing,” Greene commented. “Some of the guys are bigger and stronger than at this point last year ... It is a sign of good things to come.”

Lady Bulldogs defeat Lions

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-3 on the season as they defeated Rushville by a score of 78-22.  In the same meet, Connersville swam away from Batesville by the score of 68-30.

Andi Cox was the lone event winner for the Lady Bulldogs.  She won the 100 backstroke.

Clare Parker was second in the 100 yard butterfly.  Other swimmers taking second place honors were Nicole Hountz (200/500 free), Cox (200 IM), and Gwendolyn Frank (100 breaststroke).

The improvements continued for many Lady Bulldogs.  Sarah Espin posted a personal best time in the 100 free.  Other swimmers posting career best times were Sam Brandt (100 free), Lauren Caplinger (200/500 free), Audrey Hall (50 free/100 free), Lydia Olsen (100 free), Avni Patel (100 back), Ally Ritter (50 free), Emily Rose (50 free) and Sophie Voegele (50 free/100 breast).
