Three Batesville eighth graders recently completed at the Indiana Divisional Swim Championships at Columbus North High School March 1-3.
Hannah Cox, Emily Gutzwiller and Taylor Villani all represented the SIYMCA Stingrays and came away with some impressive results. “This meet would be the equivalent to a regional competition at the high school level,” according to TJ Greene. “The competition is at a very high level in each age group.”
Cox, Gutzwiller and Villani all competed in the 14 and under age group. Gutzwiller finished highest for the Stingrays, scoring in five of her six events. She was fourth in the 200 yard butterfly (2:37.95), fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:50.32), eighth in the 200 individual medley (2:34.52), 10th in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:20.25) and 14th in the 100 yard butterfly (1:10.41).
Villani scored in 4 of 6 events. She was 7th in the 50 yard freestyle (27.20), 11th in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:20.45), 13th in both the 100 freestyle (1:00.33)and 200 freestyle (2:13.68), 19th in the 500 yard freestyle (6:09.49) and 25th in the 200 individual medley (2:42.21).Cox finished 17th in the 100 yard butterfly (1:12.66) and 27th in the 100 yard individual medley (2:43.76).
“Dave Cox has done a great job with these girls the past few years,” Greene commented. “Their times would be competitive with anyone on our team this year. They will be a great addition to next year’s squad.”
