Lady Bulldogs split two at Franklin

The Batesville Lady Bulldogs traveled to Franklin Community High School on Saturday for a four-team tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs lost in the opener to host Franklin, but bounced back to defeat the Indian Creek Lady Braves.

Coach Darrick Cox’s squad suffered a 54-41 loss to Franklin.

The Lady Bulldogs fell behind 15-11 at the end of the first quarter and could not get caught up. The deficit grew to 11 points after scoring just four points in the second quarter.

Franklin (9-4) continued to move farther in front with a 22-point third quarter. The Lady Bulldogs did outscore their opponents 13-6 over the final eight minutes.

Brooke Bradford led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 12 points, followed by Bailey Baumer with 11. Bradford recorded five steals, while Baumer grabbed nine rebounds. Jessica Wagers scored seven points and recorded five rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs bounced back with a 62-55 victory over Indian Creek (2-10) in the consolation round.

Batesville was led by a 31 point performance from Bradford. The junior guard set a new school record with seven 3-pointers. She was 7-of-14 from the 3-point range and added a pair of two point baskets to go with 6-of-8 shooting from the free throw line.

Baumer was solid for a second game in a row. She finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed Indian Creek at the end of the first quarter, but got things going in the second. They won the second quarter by three points and outscored the Lady Braves 38-33 in the second half.

The Lady Bulldogs moved to 6-5 on the season and will open the Ripley County tournament on Tuesday against the Milan Lady Indians. Milan enters the tournament winless at 0-11.
