— Far from ideal weather conditions greeted area cross country teams Tuesday evening at the annual Batesville Invitational.
The host Lady Bulldogs had four runners place in the top 10 of the division to claim the top team honors.
Kelsey Gausman led the seven-team grouping with a first place finish. Hannah Lehfeldt was third followed closely in fourth by Abbie Krieg.
Maria Wessel was sixth for the Lady Bulldogs, while Jordan Lowery was just outside the top 10 in 11th place.
“I’m real proud of our team,” BHS coach Steve Yeaton commented. “We had four girls finish under 22 minutes.
“That’s a big improvement from our first meet of the season when nobody was under 22 minutes,” he added.
The BHS girls improved their overall mark for the season to 46-9.
The invitational also included both boys and girls junior varsity races.
The Lady Bulldogs placed four runners in the top 10. Elizabeth Cuttle was fourth followed by Breanna Hartman (6th), Olivia Mobley (8th) and Kala Spurlock (9th).
Batesville will next be in action at the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference meet on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at BHS.
The Lady Bulldogs traveled north to compete in the Southport Invitational and left with a team score of 176 for seventh place.
Krieg led the team with her best time of the season. She crossed the finish line 13th with a time of 21:07.
Lehfeldt was the next highest finisher for Yeaton’s crew in 26th.
Other runners competing for the Lady Bulldogs were Wessel (37th), Lowery (45th), Lauren Eckstein, Hannah Rogers and Cuttle.
