Lady Bulldogs fall to Greensburg

The Batesville High School girls swim team and the host Greensburg Lady Pirates battled back and forth for the first seven events.

The Lady Pirates prevailed over the Lady Bulldogs by a score of 146-119. Batesville did manage a win against Rushville. The Lady Lions scored 39 team points.

The Lady Bulldogs had only one individual event winner, but relied on their depth for most of their points.

Emily Gutzwiller and Hannah Cox went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly to begin the second half of the meet and closed the deficit to just four points. Taylor Villani and Audrey Hall went 2-3 in the 100 freestyle, as did Elizabeth Weiler and Sarah Espin in the 500 freestyle.

Elizabeth Weiler posted a second place finish in the 200 individual medley.

Villani set a new freshman record in the 50 yard freestyle and finished second. Hall was not far behind and finished third.

The 200 freestyle relay (Hall, Espin, Hatcher, Schwettman) was second as was Emily Weiler in the 100 yard backstroke.

Gutzwiller set a new freshman record in the 100 yard breaststroke to finish second.

The 400 freestyle relay of Villani, Weiler, Weiler and Gutzwiller finished second and posted the 10th fastest time ever at BHS , according to coach TJ Greene.

The 200 medley relay team was also runner-up.

Junior varsity event winners included Ally Ritter (50 free), Lexi Hatcher (100 free), Sarah Poltrack (100 back) and Lauren Caplinger (100 breaststroke).

The loss dropped the Lady Bulldogs to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference.
