OA swim teams third at South Dearborn

The Oldenburg Academy girls swim team placed third in a field of eight teams at the South Dearborn Invitational.

Mercy High School placed first with 246 points followed closely by Oak Hills with 224.

Despite not having any individual winners, the Lady Twisters finished with 189 team points.

Meredith Maier and Mikaela Fangman were the top individual finishers for coach Cindy Todd. Maier was second in the 50 yard freestyle, while Fangman was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke.

Caroline Storms was third in the 500 freestyle.

Fourth place finishers for the Lady Twisters included Madelyn Maier (50 free), Erica Geers (100 butterfly), and Meredith Maier (100 free). The 200 free relay team of Maier, Maier, Geers and Storms placed fourth as did the quartet of Madelyn Maier, Huntyr Rose, Elaine Welage and Fangman in the 400 free relay.

The Oldenburg Academy boys team was also a third place finishers in the eight-team field. The boys finished with team score of 139 points.

Oak Hills and LaSalle high schools distanced themselves from the field. Oak Hills claimed the team title with 401.5 points, while LaSalle finished with 303.5.

Oldenburg Academy was led by John Pelzel with a first place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke and a second in the 100 butterfly. He was also on two third place relay teams.

The 200 medley relay team of Pelzel, Chris Nurrenberg, Ben Wanstrath and Liam Mungcal placed third. Wanstrath, Pelzel, Mungcal and Jeremy Kelnhofer was third in the 200 freestyle relay.

Kelnhofer, Nurrenberg, Eric Frey and Nathan Hurm finished fourth in the 400 free relay.
