---- — The East Central High School girls varsity basketball team is off to an undefeated start through the first seven games.
The team’s latest victim was the Batesville Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Trojans knocked off the Bulldogs on Saturday at BHS by the score of 58-35.
It was tough going for the Lady Bulldogs from the very start. East Central led 10-5 at the end of the first quarter and the deficit only grew from there.
A 17-point second quarter led to a 27-10 EC advantage at halftime. The margin was extended to 24 points by the end of the third quarter. The Lady Trojans outscored Batesville 20-13 in the third period.
The Lady Bulldogs were held to only 20 percent shooting from the field. They were 9-of- 44, including a 2-of-10 effort from beyond the 3-point arc. Meanwhile, the Lady Trojans were much better. East Central hit 19-of-41 shots for 46 percent.
The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring by Brooke Bradford and Bailey Baumer with 14 points apiece. They each had seven rebounds.
Jessica Wagers was the team’s top rebounder with nine boards. She also had a team-high four blocked shots.
The Lady Bulldogs fall to 3-4 on the season, while the Lady Trojans move to 7-0.
BHS wins junior varsity contest
The Lady Bulldogs needed overtime, but were victorious in the junior varsity contest by a score of 43-41.
Batesville rallied from a 27-24 third quarter deficit to force the overtime. They outscored the Lady Trojans 8-6 in the extra session.
Samantha Heidlage led the way offensively for Batesville with 14 points.
Shelby Rupp dominated the inside with 15 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end. She added nine points and three steals.
Julia Hunter was third on the team in scoring with eight points followed by Tara Prickel with seven.
The BHS junior varsity improved to 6-1 on the season.
