---- — The Batesville High School boys swim team began the season at Connersville.
Thomas Hatcher and Matt Weiler led a talented group into the start of 2013-14 swim season and came away with a split against the host Spartans and Rushville Lions.
“I’m not sure how many teams appreciate how deep our team actually is ... even with the loss of Timonera to graduation,” BHS head coach TJ Greene commented.
Hatcher (200 IM, 100 breaststroke) and Weiler (100 fly, 100 breaststroke) were both two-time individual event winners.
Seniors Graham Hunter (50 free, 100 free), Clayton McKinley (50 free), Jacob Hawkins (200 free, 100 fly) and Zach Hall (50 free) all placed in their events and Batesville swam to the lead after the first four events.
The Bulldogs also opened the meet with a win in the medley relay (Weiler, Hatcher, Hawkins, Hunter).
“We held our own against Connersville for a while,” Greene commented. “We definitely made the meet interesting.”
Batesville eventually fell to Connersville by the score of 56-42 and were victorious against Rushville 81-14.
Evan Miller was second in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle events as was Hunter in the 50 freestyle.
Seth Parker was third in the 100 freestyle and 100 yard backstroke and Hawkins took third in the 200 freestyle.
Junior varsity event winners included Nathan Hall (100 backstroke) and Kegan Main (100 free, 100 breaststroke). Improvements were turned in by Grant Greene (50 free) Zach Hall (50 free), Hatcher (200 IM), Kegan Main (100 free and 100 breaststroke), Parker (100 free) and Schwettman (100 free and 100 backstroke).
Batesville is 1-1 on the season.
