The Batesville Herald-Tribune

---- — The bleachers were full Monday night at the St. Louis School activity center.

The reason for the crowd was the annual crosstown rivalry in basketball between the host Cardinals and Batesville Middle School Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs got the better of the Cardinals in both games, but both were close a some point. The Bulldogs won the eighth grade game by a score of 51-31 and held on to win the seventh 33-29.

The eighth grade game was close much of the way before the Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs were better in the second half and gradually built a lead. By the end of the third quarter, Batesville held a 37-27 advantage.

The St. Louis eighth grade team was led offensively by Chandler Meyers with a season-high 13 points, while Kyle Siefert added six.

The seventh grade game was the opposite of the eighth.

The Bulldogs controlled the tempo and score most of the way until the Cardinals made a run at the end.

Batesville led 12-5 at the first break and later 24-13 at halftime. Still trailing by eight points entering the final six minutes, St. Louis stormed back late in the game to cut the deficit to four by the final horn.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Cooper Williams with 10 points and Trey Heidlage with six. Sam Haskamp added five points, while Alex Westerfeld added four points and five rebounds.
