The Oldenburg Academy boys varsity basketball team picked up a good win on Monday to kick off a period of three games in four days this week leading up to sectional play.
One night later, the Twisters suffered a lopsided loss on the road to the Yellow Jackets of Morristown.
Cory Schuman buried a 3-pointer from the corner to open the game, but it would be the only lead of the game for the Twisters.
Morristown rattled off 14 straight points and went on to post an 80-38 victory over Oldenburg.
Drew Kloepfer added a 3-pointer late in the quarter as Morristown led 15-6 at the break.
It was a night of perimeter shooting for both teams, especially in the first half. A total of 13 3-pointers were scored between the two teams with the majority coming from Yellow Jackets.
Morristown extended its lead to 39-20 by halftime.
The second half was a little different. The Yellow Jackets looked to get 6-foot-6 center Andrew Shepherdson more involved and they did. Shepherdson scored 14 second half points, which most were scored close to the basket or from the free throw line.
Oldenburg’s Matt Moorman hit back-to-back 3-pointers early in the second half, but the deficit was still 17 points.
The third quarter ended with the Yellow Jackets in front by a score of 55-26.
The Twisters were 60-54 winners over Greenwood Christian.
Oldenburg trailed 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, but rallied for 21 second quarter points to take a 33-26 at halftime.
The Twisters hit five 3-pointers in the second quarter. Matty Hurm and Kurt Sarringhaus each hit a pair, while Kloepfer added another.
Greenwood Christian held the Twisters to only nine points in the third quarter, but could not make up much ground. Oldenburg held a 42-38 lead entering the final eight minutes.
The Twisters secured the victory by hitting 11-of-13 free throws in the fourth quarter.
